When we left our house in the wee hours of the morning, on the 7th of February, we knew we had plenty of time to get to the airport. Little did we know that we’d not only be plenty early for our flight, but we’d be spending about 7 hours at the airport due to plane mechanical issues.
Everything went great. We got through TSA, boarded our flight, and then the captain announced there was a mechanical issue and we wouldn’t be leaving for 4 hours. 4 turned to 6 and finally after complimentary breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, bags and bags of snacks, free soda, coffee, and pizzas, we boarded again. This time we actually left Albuquerque, but too late for our connecting flight out of Atlanta to San Jose. Only about 20 minutes late. Sigh.
We alerted the rental car company and our vacation rental host and in Atlanta we got a couple free rooms from the airline in a nearby hotel for the night.
Bright and early the next morning we went back to the airport, did the whole security song and dance, and were finally in our way to Central America.
After some hassle with the rental car (worthy of its own post) we made it to our absolutely adorable vacation rental in the city of Alajuela, just a short distance from San Jose.
Our vacation rental recommended a seafood place and we had just enough time to manage the brief walk there, devour some great and cheap seafood, and collapse into our beds for the night.
