Eastward Bound: Fort Stanton and Lincoln, New Mexico

We left Albuquerque early this morning heading south and east. First stop was Fort Stanton, New Mexico. It’s an old fort with a diverse history as a military post, tuberculosis hospital, German internment camp, Japanese American internment camp, and more. We were able to walk into many of the buildings and get a sense of what it was like through the ages.

After Fort Stanton, we took the long way around through Ruidoso to Lincoln to see where Billy the Kid lived. We’ve been to Lincoln before and we wanted to check out this great coffee shop on the main drag. Turns out the town was getting ready for their annual town doings but we wanted to get to Carlsbad so we didn’t stick around. The coffee was good though!
