We went to Santa Rosa Lake State Park to see check out the park and the fishing. We had a great time and did some solid catch and release. Not as good as Elephant Butte, but enjoyable.
The lake is clear, but we didn’t see anywhere to swim. Most of the shore near the campground was rocky. Good fishing nooks though.
The Santa Rosa Lake campground is near the Santa Rosa Dam. The State Park is leased by the state from the Army Corps of Engineers and is well maintained with excellent hike trails along the shoreline.
The weather was perfect, sunny and warm all day and comfortable at night. Not too buggy either so we were able to comfortably eat dinner outside.
As far as lakes go, Santa Rosa is pretty great definitely worth a revisit.
Great sunsets too!
